A Bold Take on Black & White Kitchen Remodel
Classic style meets personal touches: repurposed pendants, glass cabinets showcasing a coveted pottery collection, a bold waterfall island, and a floating butcher block countertop suspended over a window to maximize natural light—all providing smart, space-saving solutions for a one-of-a-kind kitchen and dining remodel in Oklahoma City.
The homeowners were initially hesitant about undertaking a full kitchen remodel due to a tight budget, but with enough equity in their home, they decided to move forward with their dream kitchen and dining room renovation. Carefully managing their budget, they approached the project with practicality, balancing full-time work, school, and a busy family life with three kids.
From the start, they envisioned a black and white kitchen, but the goal was to create a design that felt unique, timeless, and functional. While many black and white kitchens are featured on Pinterest, this remodel needed to stand out while still feeling warm and inviting.
The kitchen remodel involved flipping the dining and kitchen areas. The new kitchen expanded into the former dining room space, and the old fireplace was replaced with a sleek new stove. This updated layout created an open, accessible space perfect for hosting large gatherings. The kitchen now flows seamlessly into the backyard, providing the ideal setup for family dinners and outdoor entertaining.
Instead of replacing the large backyard window, which would have been a costly choice for this budget-friendly kitchen remodel, we transformed it into an architectural focal point. By floating a butcher block countertop across the window, the design maintained natural light while adding valuable counter space—perfect for a modern and functional kitchen layout.
The homeowners already had black appliances, so the kitchen design was built around them, creating a cohesive look. To add a bold, modern touch, they chose a waterfall edge for the quartz countertops, fully embracing the black-and-white kitchen aesthetic. Natural wood accents, such as open shelves, a custom stove hood base, and a library ladder, introduced warmth and texture, enhancing the timeless feel of this kitchen remodel.
The homeowners wanted to keep their kitchen clean and clutter-free, which meant hiding the microwave. Opting for one of the smallest microwaves available, they needed a solution that wouldn't sacrifice valuable cabinet or counter space. We found the perfect spot in an awkward corner where the kitchen cabinets meet. What would have been an unusable or awkward space is now a functional microwave nook, keeping the appliance discreet and out of the way.
